Beautiful place

The Benedictine Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel is one of the most remarkable examples of mediaeval religious and military architecture and was one of Christianity's most important pilgrimage sites from the 8th to the 18th century. The Abbey comprises a superb ensemble of clerical buildings including the abbey church, the cloister, the refectory, the monks' ambulatory and the gardens of what has been known as the ""Merveille"" (Marvel) since the 12th century. In summer, the Abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel is best seen in all its splendour after sunset during the special “sons et lumières"" shows. Designated world heritage site by UNESCO. Beautiful place
We stayed on the mainland and spent an evening exploring the Mont's village and having dinner and then the next morning we returned and toured the Abbey. We wanted to attend the morning Laudes prayer service at 6:50am but we were 12 minutes late to the 10 minute service and it was all locked up. So we had plenty of time to enjoy the deserted area before the doors opened at 9am which is what time our pre-purchased (one month before on the Abbey's official website) ticket was for. The outside is, of course, majestic, and the inside is very interesting and breath-taking as well. We left the island around 10:15am while people were really starting to come, so we never saw it super crowded. It was fabulous if you have a night to spend to do what we did.

    Amazing historical building
The abbey takes up most of the island of Mont Saint-Michel. We stayed in the nearby town overnight and were able to get up early to see it at sunrise, and then had pre-purchased timed tickets to enter the abbey itself. We enjoyed the walk over the bridge and the changing views of the abbey as we approached, but there is also a free shuttle bus that goes to and from. We had a timed entrance, but once inside we could go at our own pace, with lots of stops for photos. We paid extra for the audio guide and found it well worth it. Overall we spent an hour and twenty minutes touring the abbey. It's well worth visiting this historical and cultural monument!
