>>> Don't Miss It; Staff Eager To Share Knowledge!

We passed the Custom House Maritime Museum several times while walking through Newburyport, and it doesn't look like much from the outside. But it's exploding with interesting artifacts and displays about the history of this city, once the fourth largest in the nation. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and it was clear that they appreciated our visit and our interest in the Museum and Newburyport. They were brimming with knowledge about Newburyport and the exhibits, so don't hesitate to ask about any- and everything.

    Custom House Maritime Museum
We stayed overnight in Newburyport and were looking for some in-town museums on a Tuesday. We stopped at the Custom House Museum on a rainy morning. The building is not large, four rooms of each of two floors. Charges were very reasonable, $7 for adults, $5 for us oldsters. There was a different exhibit in each of the rooms ranging from the Coast Guard (founded in Newburyport), to a very interesting WWII ship model exhibit, to the history of the man who designed this and other customs houses in New England in the 1800s to a shipbuilding exhibit. It took us about an hour to go through the exhibits fairly carefully. Definitely a good way to spend an hour or so in Newburyport.
