Books !!!!!
On September 3rd, 2011 "The Book Booth: America's littlest library" opened in Clinton Corners, NY - A refurbished 1960s 3'x3'x8'4" British Phone Booth that houses 150 used books, 2 thin visitors at a time, uses no electricity, no plumbing and with a motion sensor light that is powered by a tiny solar panel on the roof... everything about this mini library is green, except the color. Thanks to David & Jeanie Bean who have loaned their phone box to the local library. It is an official branch of the Clinton Community Library, Friends of Library maintain the booth year round. The Red English Phone Box is genuine! Though, not the traditional kind often seen in movies and in England, this is a K-8 model. Industrial Designer Bruce Martin vision for the tradional Red Phone Box won and it his design that was used during the 1960s. 11,000 were produced and as of 2011, only 12 are still in use today in UK. We'd like to add to that number and think that 13 are in perfect working order...though, not used in its true intention, the Book Booth certainly works hard at keeping people connected by way of the written word.In fact, if you plan on making a visit, try to bring a book to "readcycle" as the loose policy is 'take a book/leave a book'. If you don't have a book to share, please feel free to take one anyways and remember to pass it on to someone else. Childrens books are located in the baskets on the floor so the little ones can rummage through whilst Mom & Dad look at the bounty on the shelves.
