Amazing Building

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of New York and the seat of its Archbishop. Built by contributions large and small, it remains emblematic of the ascendance of religious freedom in the New World. As such, this international landmark is a beacon of hope for those who share the Catholic faith and a source of inspiration to the more than five million visitors of every religious denomination welcomed here each year. St. Patrick’s Cathedral has stood strong, overlooking 5th Ave, since 1879. The vibrancy of its windows, the beauty of its music and the purpose of its charitable outreach call us to respond to our shared humanity. Saint Patrick’s Cathedral is a must see destination when visiting New York. Our tour has been crafted to capture the essence of the church. It addresses the rich history of the past and the incredible art and architecture that makes it one of a kind. Timothy Cardinal Dolan, narrates the tour with Monsignor Robert Ritchie.

Yes, this a real church and that is a real church service
To all the tourists huddled in the back of the cathedral taking pictures and gawking at the people in the pews who kept psuedo-whispering to each other "Is this a real church service?" Yes. Yes, it is. So be respectful, don't wander up to the alter in the middle of the service to take a picture, and stop talking so loudly. Instead, tithe $5 into the boxes to thank the parish for allowing you to visit, light a candle for your loved ones, and either sit down and pray or quietly take your leave. All are welcome as long as they do not disrupt.

    Look for Groupon Deals
I purchased Audio Cathedral Tours for Four through Groupon at a considerable savings. Otherwise, an audio tour purchased at the Cathedral is over-priced. You can walk through the Cathedral for free, but the audio tour does add interesting tidbits. As Protestants, my family learned a lot about Catholic history that was new to us. Sit in a pew when you can to listen to the commentary; your feet will thank you, but be aware of the metal kneelers on the prayer benches.
