Great Covid protocols, Okay skiing

We spent 7 days skiing over the holidays at Hunter Mountain. The staff were great. The people working the lines were very vocal about making sure everyone wears masks over their noses while waiting in line. Because of their protocols, lines were pretty long. It was also easy to make reservations for the restaurant and seating was well designed to keep you away from others. (5 Stars for COVID Protocols) As for the skiing/snowboarding, because of the warm weather (and rain), not many trails were open. I would have liked more trails and more snowboard features for my kid.

    Amazing mountain 2hrs from NYC
I love this place. This season I’ve been able to make it 1-3x a week and I haven’t been bored once. I love the trails, the crowd and the community it brings in. Honestly, the food sucks...It’s basic cafeteria food and you’d expect more from a “luxury” resort that’s now owned by Vail. However, the mac n cheese with the chili is the best, but bring your own food. Park close to the mountain and just eat lunch and have drinks by your car (Thats what everyone is doing now anyway). If you need to rent or demo skis/snowboards go to Snowbird or Pro Ski & Ride. They’ll let you demo all day unlike the shop at Hunter (don’t quote me on this but I think they only allow you to demo for up to two hours). All these shops are knowledgeable on equipment. All the trails are safe expect for the backside of the mountain which gets pretty icy by 1-2pm. If you’re one of those people who “thinks” they can ski a blue, black, or double black, don’t even think about coming here. Everyone who skis/snowboards well at hunter is an advanced skier/snowboarder, we don’t need jerk offs who can’t turn or stop almost clipping people. Overall, Hunter has a variety of trails you can ride into from the top, you will never be bored. The oxygen quality is great and you’ll feel like a brand new person by the end of the day.

Good option close to the city.
This is a very good mountain close enough to the city. It is about 2h 30 min drive from Brooklyn (if you leave around 6:30am). Good: nice selection of trails. It was reasonable priced for one day. If you buy in advance of your travel date (1-2 days) - you will get a discount. Bad: Belt Pkwy was overcrowded. The food/ drinks were very pricey. Meat wrap is $15. Chicken soup $12. $9 for beer and $14 for wine + tax. ))) Parking lot gets crowded.
