Hickory Ski Center, New York, United States

4.5 (3 reviews) Wednesday: Spent Ranking #7 in Warrensburg Ski & Snowboard Areas

Great! Also made us push ourselves.

What a wonderful hike even though skiing conditions were icy. Wonderful place to snowshoe. Hopefully after this snowfall it will make it even better for skiing. You can view White Face, Gore Mountain, Crane Mountain and much of the homesteads of warrensburg. What a great place to go and lovely place to pray to God for snow. Amen.

Groomer Day at a Place Without Groomers
I'm tempted to write the "This place is terrible, never go here" review to keep it for myself but, if old-school has a place in your heart, you can ski a bit, and you catch it after a dump, you may just find a new love. Beginners and even intermediates need not apply as there is almost no terrain for them. Everyone else just needs to watch the weather as they make no snow and only get an average of 80 inches a year. I went in mid-March on what I knew was going to be a tough day because I wasn't sure there would be anything left with a couple warm days and some rain in the near-term forecast. It was breakable crust that you could not bend a ski in at all once you broke through. A great day for humility and survival skiing and I had a great time anyway. I actually took a couple runs behind their packing machine on the tiny bit of beginner terrain they have at the end of the day to re-align my back and stop the abuse of the dental work I'd been trying to pop out of my mouth higher up. The poma lifts are a gas!! "Houston, we are ready...oh, and I'm six feet in the air..."

Old school ski lift - nice people - not crowded runs
The t-bar is a nice throw back to the way you used to get up a mountain. Because Hickory still has this system, not many people go - which is nice for the die hard skiers/snowboarders who don't mind putting some work in to own the mountain. The employees were super nice and patient, especially with the difficulty of learning how to ride a t-bar up for beginners.
