Worth a browse, especially for those looking for foodie heaven!
Chelsea Market is an enclosed modern food hall, located in an historic old warehouse inManhattan’s once abandoned but now popular neighbourhood of the Meatpacking District. It had its origins as a factory for the New York Biscuit Company, later known as Nabisco, and for decades, this was the factory where Oreo biscuits were produced. When the production of the biscuits moved elsewhere, the red-brick complex was developed into the market in the 1990s. The market occupies an entire New York City block, and its central passageway seems to go on and on and on. As you browse through its cavernous interiors, don't forget to look around and enjoy the building's historical charms, like the iconic fountain crafted using discarded drill bits and exposed pipe from the former Nabisco factory. It’s definitely worth a visit. I think it is one of the best food halls in New York, but it’s not your average neighbourhood market. Whilst it is similar to the average market in that its vendor stalls line a maze of hallways, it veers towards the gourmet end of the food markets. I’ve always enjoyed my visits here. I do, however, think that some of the specialty and imported food items are over-priced, especially stuff from Europe. You’ll get a wide array of produce, from olive oils, cheeses and exotic cooking supplies, to donuts, tacos, gelato and fresh breads, bagels and pastries. There are a myriad of outlets selling everything from Thai food, Israeli street food, clam chowder and the like. But its not entirely about food. In addition to its numerous dining options, Chelsea Market is home to some seriously cool and upmarket stores. You'll find everything from gifts, jewellery and flowers to home goods. Get a haircut, find the perfect bottle of wine. And if you are looking for unique souvenir to remember your New York trip, there are a number of outlets selling unique and handmade curios. There’s a couple of things you should keep in mind. The main central walkway, which most people follow, gets seriously crowded. Be patient, and keep your belongings , phones, wallets and purses safe and out of sight. And also be advised that stuff for sale here is not particularly cheap! To get to Chelsea Market, take the subway train to 8th Avenue or 18th Street. Both stations are only a few blocks east of the market. The High Line, Little Garden and the Hudson River are very close, and the West Village is just south.

Lots to offer but can be busy
Plenty of food options and little shops dotted around the market. Can be easily accessed from the high line just down the steps. We visited at around 1pm and it was very busy so I would avoid going the at lunchtime if your not keen on crowds
