Off-season light house visit

We visited in mid-April when there was no admission fee. Plenty of parking and easy access to the lighthouse, and beach. Everything is closed during the night off season, including bathrooms, but there is one port-a-potty near the parking lot. The views were wonderful. We had a great time looking at shells and other sea life. There are picnic tables and a pavilion as well. We probably spent about an hour here. I can't imagine spending $30/day.

    Worth a visit
Very nice place. Unfortunately perhaps because of the weather the surrounding greens and trees were pretty dried. Beautiful bay with nice people. The charge for entry ($30 for out-of-state) is pretty high, I think.

    Lovely but crowded
My husband grew up near this park and has fond memories of coming here as a child, so we decided to visit this park and enjoy the beach. It's apparently a very popular destination, as it was super crowded, with people suntanning, barbecuing, and generally just socializing. It took time to find space for us to get settled, but once we did, we had a comfortable and pleasant time. It does cost money to enter the park (depending on whether you're a New Haven resident, a general CT resident, or from out of state), so plan accordingly. It's a big park and has sufficient parking, but be prepared to walk around a bit. You can also visit the carousel and the lighthouse.
