Magnificent State Capitol
We raced here for the 4pm tour and were so glad that we just made it. Even managed to park right outside. It’s a magnificent, very unusual building for State Capitols and so much the better for it. The story of Nebraska really shines through everywhere here; the full history of the state is told with pride in great detail, helped by the enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. We went up to the 14th floor observation deck and could see for miles, though to be honest there wasn’t much of interest except our car and the governor’s mansion way below. Intrigued that the door to the state supreme court was unlocked and we all filed in. Produced by the same team, the statue of Lincoln outside is even older than the famous one in DC.

Very nice capital building and free tour!
We took a guided tour (free) on Sunday at 1 PM. The guide was very knowledgable, spoke clearly and knew a lot about the building, construction details, artwork and was even knowledgable about the workings of each chamber. All in all a very nice tour! There were demonstrations outside, but fortunately, the people were fairly well behaved, after all this is Nebraska! The artwork, tile mosaic pictures and paintings are quite amazing. It is definitely worth a visit. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that a large section of the west side of the capitol was boarded off for some kind of construction, though dust and noise were not a problem on this Sunday tour.
