4.5 (900 reviews) Monday: Spent Ranking #5 in Omaha Art Museums

Beautiful, fun for little ones

Beautiful and fun, from the outdoor space to inside. Our kids (1 and 5) as well as s enjoyed it very mischievous. Our favorite is the lower level art interactive room, very thoughtful and fun activities, some even 1 yr-old can engage, made us very happy. Also very good in preventing COVID, such as requiring hand-sanitizer before entering the room of interaction and having a staff sanitizing there all the time

Beautiful building, great collections, but why all torn up for an expansion?
My husband and I love Art Deco architecture so it was a natural that we would visit both the museum (an Art Deco masterpiece) and see a temporary Art Deco exhibit there. Really enjoyed both; this is a true gem for Omaha. But we were perplexed by the amount of construction outside the building and read that a large new wing is being installed -- I am sure some people will love that; to us, the proposed design really detracts from the beautiful existing space. The museum is already large enough for a city the size of Omaha! We also might note that several of the beautiful public areas were being set up for a wedding by 2 pm on a Saturday so enjoying these areas and taking photos etc. was compromised,. It would be nice if private events were kept strictly to hours when the museum was not open to the public.Seeing banquet tables being set up and photographers, videographers etc. running around was not conducive to a contemplative experience. There's no going back on the expansion now but I hope that the Joslyn comes out of this experience in a better way, Also I REALLY hope that guided architecture tours will be available!!! The art is interesting but it is the architecture that is the star. A permanent exhibit on Art Deco would be amazing!
