5.0 (17 reviews) Spent Ranking #28 in Nantucket Observatories & Planetariums

Highlight of our visit!!

Highly recommend the open viewing nights. Great activity for all ages. We saw the Milky Way, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. The telescope views were great. Location is easy to miss so try to locate it during the daylight first.

    Starry Night on Natucket
What a unique and fun night out on Nantucket. We first learned about the Loines Observatory on our first trip to Nantucket two years ago when we stumbled upon the Vestal Street Observatory. We were invited to look at the sun through a special solar telescope and then preceded to learn about the amazing universe from two very knowledgeable and enthusiastic astronomers who also invited us to look at the night sky at the Loines Observatory on Milk Street. Nantucket is a great place to star gaze (not a lot of light pollution) and our visit to the Loines Observatory coincided with a New Moon so the stars and planets were easily visible. We saw Saturn's rings through a refracting telescope and the globular cluster M13 through their reflecting telescope. We also received a constellation tour that was very interesting. Now, you may think this place is only for astronomy geeks (and yes, they would love this place),but it's also for anyone who enjoys beauty and nature. At the end of the day, it's something different to do on a small island - whether you're 8 or 80.

    Best Night on Nantucket!
Our favorite night on Nantucket begins with a fun walk by flashlight out past Prospect Hill Cemetery to the amazing Loines Observatory. There you will find 2 state of the art telescopes and an enthusiastic and professional astronomy team ready to point out everything of interest in the skies above you: constellations, stars, planets, even satellites. This is a very memorable night on Nantucket for all ages-- do not miss.
