Mikindani museum
The Makumbusho MIKINDANI Museum’s subject is the history and culture of Tanzania’s southern coastal region. The Wamakonde, who along this region’s coastline assimilated Swahili ways of life, comprise the greater proportion of the present-day population. Their own history is at the heart of the museum. But other peoples – from Africa and from distant shores – have significantly influenced the development of the region. They too are part of the story.

Makonde History
Great place. The reception was great. The museum has a fantastic collecyion of Makonde cultural Items. However some information on history of immigrants like the arabs and indians is inaccurate. They have personalized stories of some of the residents of the inhabitants which is a great touch.

Warm welcome, wonderfully curated
As a former history teacher and self-confessed history geek it may come as no surprised that I enjoyed my visit to Makumbusho ya Mikindani. What made my visit so special was the warm greeting I received and the personal guided tour offered not to mention the quality of the museum's treasures.
