Carter Lake trail, Alaska, United States

Beautiful day hike
Fun hike, safe parking lot. Bugs were a bit bad. First mile and a half is quite steep with some rock/ small stream crossings but fun. Then it opens up to beautiful meadows. I highly recommend this trail for all ages.

Easy hike to mountain lake
Thus trail can be a relatively easy out and back or a longer overnight hiking trip with forest service cabin stay in between. We hiked from the Moose Pass side up to the shore of Carter Lake. The first mile is a very wide and even trail which narrows down to more of a foot path towards the top. The hike itself has quite a few switchbacks but isn't very difficult. It took us about 3 hours to hike up and back with a snack break over looking Carter Lake, and we had a 7, 4, and 2 year old. If you wanted to continue you could hike onto Crescent Lake which isn't too far past Carter. The forest service cabin is about 7 miles from the Carter Lake trail head. When we were hiking some of the creek crossings overflowed I to the trail making them pretty wide but we were pretty sure that was just seasonal runoff.
