Ousel Falls Trail, Montana, United States

Pretty Hike

The Ousel Falls Trail is a short 1.8 mile mostly paved hike on the outskirts of Big Sky Village in Montana. The hike is pretty and features a path that meanders along a stream ending at the Ousel Falls. Having seen some large waterfalls prior to this hike, the falls themselves were a little underwhelming. But the hike was still enjoyable and worth doing. It is easily accessible and can be done by people of virtually any ability level. Its location near Big Sky makes it very accessible and easy to get to. On the whole, I recommend hiking out to Ousel Falls for anyone who just enjoys going on peaceful walks or just being outside. There are some picnic benches available for those who want to enjoy a meal out in nature.

    Great trail for everyone
Nice, well-maintained trail, bridges and picnic areas. Several people were pushing strollers although some areas were a little steep. We had no problems with our small dog and older parents. Several benches along the way to stop and rest. My 75 year old mother/couch potato who has had a knee replacement did fine walking slow and taking breaks when needed. Plenty of parking and a restroom at the trailhead. Limited cell service along the trail, obviously. The falls were beautiful. Nice views of scenery over the entire trail.

    Memorable Winter Hike
This trail was recommended to us by one of the store owners as an easy hike that did not require any equipment other than good snow boots. I would not have described it as easy, the trail was rather slippery for the majority of the hike. At one point people were sitting on their butts and sliding down rather than trying to walk. I don't think snowshoes were necessary, but walking poles would have been beneficial. It was still a fun hike and the waterfall peeping through the frozen exterior was unique. I would recommend this trail to people looking for a short hike with a little bit of adventure.
