Chief Joseph Long-lauf Lost Trail Pass

This location is a fabulous cross country ski site. Miles of groomed trail as well as many more miles of off trail expert deep snow. This place makes for an excellent outing with family and friends having a snowy back country fire and picnic high up in the alpine forest of the Lost Trail Pass. If you cross country you will love this place!!

    Wonderful cross country skiing and snowshoeing
    My husband and I stopped by the Chief Joseph Cross Country Ski area the day before Thanksgiving. The Bitterroot Ski Club has already begun grooming the trails (thank you snow gods). We enjoyed snowshoeing for about an hour with bright sun and a bluebird sky. If you enjoy snowy activities and are visiting the Bitterroot Valley or the Big Hole Valley, a trip to Chief Joseph is definitely worth the effort. Access is free but donations are accepted for keeping up the trails.

    Beautiful
    The trails are kept in great shape with a nice warming lodge, well marked maps, and beautiful overlooks. Looks like Narnia. You can't rent equipment here so make sure to bring it with.
