Murphy's Beach, Hawaii, United States

4.0 (100 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Molokai Beaches

Easy to get to

Murphys Beach is also referred to as 20 mile beach, as it sits at the 20 mile marker on the road. Beach area is protected by the fringe reef so there is no big surf here. There is shade, sand is nice, and it’s really easy to park right up next to where you want to sit. This is not a beach to boogie board, swim, or surf. Very shallow with rocks and coral. Generally ther is enough sand in the water to get out about thigh deep and take a dip to cool off. Surprisingly there are few people here as it’s one of the easier beaches to access on Molokai. Water clarity is clear and if you are okay with coral and rocks 12-13 “ under you while snorkeling, it’s fair. Most people say snorkeling in the wintertime on Molokai isn’t very good because of the winter swell and I totally agree.

    Safe snorkeling
Also known as Mile Marker 20 Beach on the east side, this is really the only safe place to snorkel in the winter on Moloka'i. Make sure to bring your own gear, as I didn't notice any place to rent snorkels or fins. There is an area protected by rocks on the east end of the beach-- That's where we saw the most coral and fish. When I tried to venture towards the center, the water got choppier and fish were fewer. We saw a fair amount of people here, but it wasn't crowded, which was nice. No lifeguard, so always be careful.

    Murky waters, clean vibes
“Twenty-mile beach is a local hang on the way out to Halawa Valley, with a nice spread of sand and some decent coral in spots. But the water is murky cause of heavy wave action and agricultural run off, so the snorkeling cannot be compared even to Maui’s. It is a nice place to relax and take a dip, but you won’t have it to yourself.
