A must do in Molokai

I am not even sure where to start, this tour was exceptional from start to finish. We met Greg at Halawa Park. He told us about his family and about the history of the Valley. He taught us about his culture and how he is keeping it alive by teaching us and others. We went thru ceremony of asking permission to visit his father, his home and his land. We hiked to Mo’oula Falls on the way seeing historical and sacred areas in the Halawa Valley. We swam at the falls. By the time we were done we felt very connected to the land, current residents and ancestors of Halawa Valley. I hope we can hold this in our heart long after we return home.

    Highlight of Molokai trip
Our scheduled cultural hike could not take place because of flash flooding in the valley. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because Greg stayed at the park with those who wanted and enthusiastically shared photos and the history of the valley. We were honored to also meet his father, Anakala Pilipo Solatorio. Because we still had several days on Molokai, Greg kindly allowed us to return and join another group to hike to Mo'oula Falls. The hike was easy to moderate, with a fun river crossing. Greg kept a good pace for a group of about 12-14 people of varying ages and conditioning. He shared his knowledge of the rainforest and pointed out various plants used for food and medicine. He also led us to an ancient heiau (temple). What impressed us most was Greg's passion for sharing himself and his culture. It was truly a highlight of our trip, and we would love to return again to learn and experience more!

    A MUST DO!
If you are visiting Molokai, which you should, this is an ABSOLUTE MUST! Greg and his father gave is an amazing talk regarding the history of the valley and then we hiked out to the falls. The hike is a moderate hike and you not only get to experience the beauty of the the island, but hear of the history along the way. Once at the falls you spend time swimming and enjoying nature at its most pristine. This was such an incredible experience. Thank you to Greg and his family for a once in a lifetime journey!
