Walking Around Lake of the Isles

Great trip! We arrived at approximately 5 pm and started the loop drive around Lake of the Isles. There were several miles worth of walking and biking trails that encircled the lake, that provided spectacular views of the water. There were many people out and about that day, and there were plenty of parking spaces to be found. The loop drive was clearly marked, and also included signs pointing to nearby attractions. Tip: I recommend spending an hour here in order to have a nice relaxing walk next to the water.

Beautiful, but best enjoyed in warmer weather!
I absolutely love the beauty and tranquility of "Lake of the Isles." It's a good walk around the lake but best enjoyed in warmer weather. It was just too cold and windy to walk the whole trail on the day I was there. Regardless, it's a wonderful place to harmonize with nature. In the summer months you can canoe, kayak, or paddle board the lake. Great trails for biking, running, or walking. The houses facing the lake are glorious and opulent. Definitely an upscale neighborhood. In the beginning credits of the popular show "Mary Tyler Moore" the star Mary can be seen walking along "Lake of the Isles." A gem of a lake in the heart of Minneapolis!

MN Lakes During The Summer - Always a Win
Minneapolis Parks and Rec Dept does a great job of keeping all the lakes connected and user friendly. You can't go wrong with this lake either. It's got plenty of walking paths, and green space for just hanging out (and staying socially distant). It's also connected to Lake Bde Maka Ska (formerly Calhoun) by a channel so it's good for whatever water sport you like (SUP, kayaking, canoeing)--rental on the shores of the other lake.
