Beautiful Hike

Walked hiking trail found password. Hiking Club map needs update as a small part of trail near the Lac Qui Parle river has been rerouted. Some work on trail has started but know it will lead to a better experience.

    Great little park
This is a gem on the prairie the park is clean and well maintained. It is a great place to take the family any time of the year.

Pay attention to upper and lower campground choices - depending on time of year
Lac qui Parle State Park has two separate campgrounds (Upper and Lower) and there is a chunk of driving distance between them. both are also separate from the state park check in/registration. The park is full of beautiful wildflowers and located on/near a scenic lake. The upper campground is newer, and cleaner/newer facilities/showers - and some sites have a view of the distant lake. However, there is NO shade - barely any trees and so not much privacy between camping sites. Beautiful wildflowers all around thought, and the camper cabins are up here. The lower campground is more woodsy, with shade and trees and grass - which means it can be cooler but also BUGGIER - in the summer - we go hit with a horrid batch of mosquitoes. The lake has a boat access with a dock and a small "swimming area" - however BEWARE of the algae (scum) floating on top of the lake water -it is especially bad this month of July due to high temps and rainfall. We choose not to swim in it at all. The lake was great to paddle kayaks though. State park does have canoes and kayaks for rent.
