Ebel's Voyageur Houseboats, Minnesota, United States

Fun way to see Voyageur's Park!

We highly recommend Ebel's Houseboats when visiting Voyageurs National Park! This was our first-time renting a houseboat so we printed Ebel’s emails to use as our check list of items to bring (we would not have thought of all the items), action items like purchasing park houseboat permit, and reading their policies. Before our trip, Ebel's helped with our questions via phone calls / emails, and sent reminder follow up emails to confirm action items before our trip. The houseboat was thoroughly cleaned before we arrived, they carried our things on and off the boat, and provided helpful information by traveling with us to our first night camping spot. When we had questions or needed assistance with the houseboat they were only a radio call away. Everyone at Ebel's was extremely helpful.

    Great summer fun!
Our July trip was a great experience for our 7 member family. Lots of great memories. Kathy and crew were extremely professional. All cost were spelled out pretty clearly...Kathy answered all, even the dumb ones quickly...however the gas price at $6, which one reviewer complained about is typical for a marina, so not a surprise to me. And, total fuel consumption, I felt was reasonable since the twin engines and generator ran off the gas tanks. The Suzuki engines must be real gas sippers. The only thing with renting the Vista 51, mid summer, with the big glass front and side glass, was heat gain during the day, and cooling off for sleeping. If renting during the hot summer, bring a tarp to cover the front during the heat of the day. Also, bring some small battery fans to help spread the AC into staterooms in the evening. And for the novice wilderness traveler, bring mosquito netting for your beds. No matter how hard you try the bugs will get in the boat, by piggy backing you and others during the day. Sadly, my age limits my coming back again, but my kids will, they loved it all. Thanks to all the Ebels

    Voyageurs National Park Houseboating
The actual houseboating experience in Voyageurs National Park was a real blast however....the communication during the reservation / booking process was anything but smooth. Some questions we never did get answered as responses were delayed for multiple days if not weeks. The prices for additional amenities i.e. firewood, bait, ice etc. was highway robbery. Beware of the fuel price. At $6 per gallon it doesn't take much to get an additional hefty bill. The instruction and initial boating instruction by Tommy was first-rate. Too bad Katy had to negatively degrade him by pointing out a procedural mistake right over the radio for all to hear. The front door did not close properly causing huge mosquito invasions. The shower curtain and bathroom window curtain was old, ripped and falling apart. There is no kill switch for the motor on the upper counsel. Can't believe that isnot a safety issue. You get charged for a dinged prop but yet there is no remote trim switch. Your only option is to lift a heavy fiberglass cowling off the motor and get on your knees to operate the actual motor's trim switch. Remember: you are houseboating in lakes formed on top of granite rock and mooring overnight against the shore. How do you spell prop disaster which you will be charged for even with insurance coverage. Besides all the beauty and tranquility of the area, the service at the dock was exceptional. While the crew was busy with other boats also arriving within minutes of each other, their communication, attention, hustle and help was outstanding. Too bad this true bright spot was diminished by Katy's disregard of our experience and their (Ebal's) role in our vacation success.
