Waterloo-Pinckney Hiking Trail, Michigan, United States

4.5 (4 reviews) Spent More than 3 hours Ranking #8 in Grass Lake Hiking Trails

Great new trail markers!

This afternoon we hiked the first 6 miles of the trail, from Big Portage Lake and Sackrider Hill. We were pleasantly surprised to find new (at least new since last fall) trail markers, one every mile. We don't know if they continue for the remainder of the trail, but we want to thank whatever group was responsible for these markers!

    Early December weekend hike
We took advantage of unusually warm weather this December to hike the rest of the Waterloo-Pinckney trail (this time, we hiked from Southfork Cabin to Silver Lake over a weekend). We stayed in the propane heated Green Lake Yurt on the Saturday night. The weather was very good, sunny and warm (with day temperatures up to low 50s). The scenery was beautiful, even with the leaves gone. Very quiet and peaceful (probably except for the area between Mill Lake and Green Lake - there are a lot of hunters this time of the year, so wear hunters orange for safety). This time, with no mosquitoes, no horses, and very few mountain bikes, the hike was even more enjoyable than during our previous visit (in August). The cabins and the Yurt are located very conveniently along the trail for hut-to-hut hiking. This Trail is great for a late fall/early winter hike.
