The place to go to find Leland Blue!

Leland Blue is the local stone that people use to make jewelry. I wanted to find some so I did what was suggested by another TripAdvisor review - I brought water sandals (VERY rocky shoreline), a bucket and a strainer. I also went early in the morning when it was a little windy - less crowds and more likelihood of finding stones. I found stones of various sizes/color very quickly. If you like rocks, this is a great place to stop. It's an odd beach to find as access is tucked behind an auto shop and parking is limited.

Nice Beach within walking distance of Fishtown
We were in Leland for the day coming over from Traverse City. We enjoyed walking around Fishtown but it was very busy. We took a walk over to Van’s Beach. The beach was very nice. It was busy at the entrance but all you had to do was walk down a little ways. The beach was rocky but it was fun looking for fossils and pretty rocks. There wasn’t a ton of beach with the lake levels being up but there was so much more beach than Traverse City. We will definitely go back.

Wintry walk on the beach was a real treat!!
Our visit to snowy Van's Beach was a lot of fun! Great scenery with snow and ice and open water. Loved the wind blowing at us (it was so good to get out of the house and into nature after so much time indoors this winter!). Look down the beach toward the Sleeping Bear Dunes. Look up the beach towards Fishtown. Enjoy walking in the snowy sand. We picked up beautiful rocks and pebbles, and enjoyed some of the driftwood wedged into the sand. Free parking. Then a short walk down to the water.
