Interesting place!

We were here with our daughter, SIL and granddaughters. They had visited last year and the kids loved it. We enjoyed the river cut out and seeing the huge fish in the ponds. We had brought quarters to buy fish food and were disappointed that it wasn't available, but thought this was probably due to Covid and hopefully that will be available next time!

    Beautiful trails
Very peaceful stroll in the winter time. A good chance to not just see fish but other animals too. Pair of snowy owls by the big fish pond in the back didn't mind our company from a distance

    Informative tour
You can reach this fish hatchery by two ways. Drive to it when you see the turnoff from M31 or go to the Michigan Fisheries Visitor Center, park your car and walk to the fish hatchery. We opted to walk from the visitor center. The visitor center is not much, just a small gift store and some exhibits. The train car nearby is interesting as it goes over the history of transporting the fish to lakes and rivers in the state. You can then take the easy .6 mi walk to the hatchery along the way stopping at the underwater fish chamber and watch the trout swim in the river, or stop at the fish pond and feed them. At the fish hatchery you can take a free tour at specified times. Our tour guide, Maddie was excellent. She took us to several buildings where she explained collecting eggs from the trout, fertilizing them, nurturing the fish when they hatch, etc. You get an up close look at the fish. We spent almost 2 hrs here and really enjoyed it.
