Tahquamenon Falls, Michigan, United States

5.0 (319 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Upper Peninsula Bodies of Water

See both Upper & Lower Falls

Easy well paved walkways and boardwalks at both locations. Drivable between them. Well marked by signs. Upper Falls Easy wide path with a number of look out points. 94 steps down with handrails to viewing platform for better view. It’s 1/4 mile each way. You can see falls from look out points as well. There’s also a store & area to buy food & eat. There was a man playing the guitar in the center sitting area. Lower falls 1/2 mile to main look out point .. with a second look out for next smaller fall up about 200 feet & then you can continue into the bridge. Bridge is 1/4 past look out platform (so 3/4 from start). Well paved paths. There are a few looks out areas along the way. Both are accessible to anyone. They are starting to build a gift shop and bathroom that will be nice once done.

Fun and beautiful hike, expensive shuttle
We hiked the lower falls (0.4miles) and then all the way up to the upper falls (4miles), then took then shuttle back. The trails are well maintained and the views are very nice. After visiting the upper falls, you have the option to drink and eat something at the shops next to the parking lot. A shuttle service (Jordan's shuttle service) is available, but it's quite expensive. Also the pricing was unclear (to us). It said: "17 dollars for the first person and then 3 additional dollars per extra person in 'the group'. ". Given that there were 6 people (3 couples) in the car, we assumed it would be 17+(5*3) in total, devided by 6. However, each couple was charged 20 dollars for the 5 minute drive back... Given that everybody on that parking lot is driving down anyway, I would just hitch a ride if we'd do it again ? Aside from that, great activity!

Amazing view of the falls definitely coming back!
This attraction is overall great but it really depends on the time i'd say. We got really lucky with parking but definitely think ahead it gets pretty full. As for the gift shop its okay most of the shops smaller sized hoodies were sold out (understandable) slightly overpriced. I definitely recommend the Upper falls gift shops. Their is a variety of shops and a restaurant. We went to both falls, we went to Lower first. Parking wasn't that bad. Bugs weren't that much of a problem either. You walk a few miles to get to see the lower falls. Theirs a variety of spots the more you walk the closer you get. Lower falls doesnt get you as close as upper but still a great experience! Upper falls was okay the view was awesome but, walking to both Upper and Lower really makes your feet sore. If you're taking a stop up to the UP i definitely recommend going to the falls first. Overall a great experience just some issues.
