Nice boats and crew make for pleasant ride
Great ride and very efficient loading and unloading. The crew doesn’t mess around and tries to keep to schedule. If you take the mighty mac ride in the morning it only adds about five minutes to your trip and is informative. (If you get on one of these great but it is so quick it isn’t worth hanging around the dock for the next one with the tour and the crew pays no attention to whether people want to go on this or not because it’s all a numbers game once you get in line. The boat holds so many and they count off so many and then those left on the dock get the next ferry. There is no separate line for a bridge ferry. Captain and/or crew should do a little longer departure speech and explain where the head is and talk slower about life jackets. For instance, I noticed many many young children in the lower cabin but the life jacket cabinets had 18 child size jackets. Where would a parent find more child size jackets? Glad we didn’t have to know the answer. A little recording or information about the history of Mackinac Island that begins as you get within sight of the Grand Hotel would really enhance the ride for first timers along with an announcement about where visitor information is once you depart the boat. We very much appreciated the warning about reckless bicyclists as my daughter almost got run over by an overzealous porter. (There needs to be signage on the island about who has the right of way. ) if you are eligible for a military discount you can get the discount for up to four and must buy tickets at the ferry dock itself. Couldn’t find detailed info about this anywhere so here it is… $21 RT. Also honored for veterans. If you have a larger party than 4, they will allow you to break it into separate transactions. Very very much appreciated Star Line!

Fast, efficient, and got us there and back.
I'd recommend parking in Lot 1 (Mackinaw City) so you avoid the lack of shuttles to get you to other lots upon your return to the city from the island. You might consider going up to St. Ignace to cross as it's closer to the island and may be cheaper (don't quote me on that part). However, we had very little to complain about.
