Third time
There are plenty of descriptions of this from other people good and bad. This is our 3rd time and we always go in a big group. Tecumseh is a cute little town. The train ride is pleasant. We didn't see a lot of color change yet but it is so hard to plan around the fall weather. I think it is worthwhile as do my friends. It isn't exciting just a pleasant ride on a fall day. It isn't that expensive. Try it at least once.

Fun train trip
We took the train from Clinton to Tecumseh, had a two hour layover for lunch before making the return trip. It was a charming afternoon. The train is very old. You can order tickets to sit in an enclosed car, an open air car, or caboose. It rained on our first trip, so the open car was not an option. It didn't rain on the return trip, so the open air car was a great choice. The staff was great, sheltering us from the rain in their offices. There is no station, you board the train on the tracks. There is a museum, but it is closed for renovations. This train runs by donations, ticket sales and lots of volunteers. The staff actually physically stops car traffic with flags, at crossroads. They were amazing answering all the questions from kids and adults. It was a fantastic afternoon.

Short ride
This train ride is completely run by volunteers. Trains are old but run fine. There is an open air car with bench seats or indoor seating. Ride goes out about 2.5 miles and back 2.5 miles on the same track. Train goes 5 MPH. You do see some fall color but also backyards and brush. Volunteers are helpful. Restrooms are porta pots at the museum. Museum does not have much but they have cold and hot cider for a donation. There are better rides elsewhere but this is inexpensive and kids appear to enjoy it.
