Amazing monument to an amazing woman
This impressive sculpture is 12 feet high and was dedicated in 1999. I had no idea that Sojourner Truth lived in Battle Creek, MI. She was born a slave named Isabella Baumfree and later escaped with her daughter. She later sued for her son's freedom. She traveled to twenty states over 40 years, advocating the freedom of slaves. She lived in Battle Creek for about the last 25 years of her life.
