A great time for everyone

We make this a summer destination vacation event every year. Our group has grown from 7 to almost 30 over the years and they accommodate us every time with ease... The river is great for all ages, the staff is friendly and super helpful. The equipment is always in good shape. Can't say enough great things about this family friendly business.

TUBING KAYAKING AND CANOEING DOWN THE MANISTEE RIVER IN UPPER PENINSULA NORTHERN MICHIGAN
On Tuesday August 23 2016, my wife, my 16 year old son and I went tubing. We rented our tubes from Shel-Haven rentals on the west side of Grayling on the Manistee River. Todd and Jody are the owners and their hired hand Matt were all very accommodating hosts for our first time tubing. We left our vehicle at the Shel-Haven store and Matt drove us 15 minutes to the private drop off. Then we got into our tubes and floated 3 hours down this very calm river. This experience was one of the best things I have ever enjoyed in my life. We will be back and we wouldn't change a thing.

Great day trip but water VERY shallow, got stuck a lot.
Staff is nice and prices are good. We took the 2.5 hr trip but it took us a little over 3 hours which was fine. We were not in a hurry but we kept getting stuck! We usually paddle the Au Sable and while the water is pretty shallow there we have never gotten stuck. We decided to experience the Manistee this time. The water is cold and crystal clear, the scenery is beautiful and it is very peaceful and pretty easy to navigate even with minimal experience. The only negatives were that the van driver just dropped our kayaks off at the top of a pretty long stairway and didn't offer to help carry them down. It was totally doable for us but if you were the only adult with small kids or elderly some people might struggle. Would be nice to have the option for assistance. As mentioned the water was literally ankle deep in many spots. We got completely stuck 4 times and had to get out and pull the boat several hundred feet each time. We saw a lot of other people get stuck too, even in tubes. Idk if the water level is low this year or if its always like that. Not the company's fault obviously but something be aware of. Overall we would definitely do this trip again with them.
