First time ever on a Chain Ferry
What a great experience. There were 14 in our family group and so enjoyed this never before experience. The crossing is not a long distance. It does cost $2.00 each way. But those young polite boys so earned it , plus a good tip!

Very Cool Ferry
The ferry ride was pretty awesome to have an older way to cross the river. The cost was minimal and way to go to Saugatuck. There is no parking in Saugatuck, so parked at Mt. Baldy and took ferry across to walk around and had some ice cream.

Quaint attraction
This is a chain ferry from the 19th century that runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day across the Kalamazoo River and is the only hand-cranked chain ferry left in the US. The trip is only about 100 yards but it only costs $1. You get on/off it from a ramp so it is fairly accessible and we had no issues with a stroller. High school kids crank the ferry and accept tips but they are typically entertaining. It does close during inclement weather and high winds. Fun ride across the river to/from town and the Mt. Baldhead lookout and Oval beach. We rode it multiple times.
