The jewel of Portland

The River Trail system in Portland is one of the finest assets of the city. If you walk the entire trail, it's over 10 miles long. It loops through most of the parks in the city; at least half of it runs adjacent to the Grand or Lookingglass Rivers. No matter what time of day you walk it, you have a chance of seeing the deer who live nearby. They are so accustomed to walkers that they stand and stare---seemingly unfrightened.

    Great all year round
My favorite thing in Portland is the river trail. It’s great for running, walking or biking. The trails are fairly well maintained but my one complaint is that they tend to be “messy” for lack of better terms if you were trying to rollerblade. I’ve never explored it with a stroller. I’ve seen a lot of strollers on the trails so I assume people manage but I’ve noticed a lot of twigs and tree bits that would make it difficult to ride on rollerblades in some of the wooded areas. Obviously these are outdoor trails so you’re bound to have some of that but it would be great if there was a way to take a leaf blower or big brush and sweep it clean after a storm and clear out some of the brush. The trails are safe. The views are lovely. My in laws often plan day trips to visit us and even come if we’re not home just to ride on the trails.

    GREAT!!!!!!!
This is a great little trail. If you are going to walk with your dog they even provide poop bags and a disposal can. Loved how they had made the tunnel under the highway.
