Port Austin Reef Light, Michigan, United States

5.0 (4 reviews) Spent Ranking #5 in Port Austin Lighthouses

EXCEPTIONAL

The visit out to the lighthouse is one of the best excursions we have taken. The history, seeing the renovation in progress, enjoying the beautiful view from the lighthouse is well worth the $50 price - which I call a donation. Absolutely a must do when in the area!

    Wonderful tour!
The tour of this lighthouse was one of the main reasons we visited Port Austin. And it did not disappoint! The guides were knowledgeable and very friendly, several of them had been involved in the gradual renovation of this landmark for decades. And we had the opportunity to climb all of the way up to the top of this lighthouse for amazing views of the shoreline and the lake. Not to be missed if you are a fan of lighthouses!

    Great Adventure
For years, we've seen the Lighthouse from the Port Austin breakwall and longed to visit it. We were thrilled to learn that for the first time, tours were being offered to the public! This fantastic adventure is only $50 per person! To be sure we had a seat, Six of our family chartered the entire boat. After all, two of us were celebrating birthdays and what better birthday gift! The trip to the Port Austin Lighthouse was quite scenic and educational. We learned a lot about the history of the lighthouse and the extensive efforts of the volunteers who labored for years to do the necessary repairs required to open it to the public. We climbed a ladder/stairway to the lighthouse 30 feet above. Once Inside, we learned all about what life was like for early lighthouse keepers as we walked up several flights of stairs, followed by two short spiral staircases. We actually got to walk OUTSIDE and around the light! The view was incredible! We waved to the boaters below who were astonished to see us waving from high above. We were all so glad that we did this tour! What an incredible experience and what a view!
