Point Betsie Lighthouse, Michigan, United States

4.5 (324 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Benzie County Lighthouses

Worthwhile

You are able, for a fee, to get a guided tour of the house and lighthouse and then able to climb to the top to see the great view. They have a cute gift shop with a few things to see and things to buy. You park at the end of the road on the sides of the road. Make sure you don't block any driveways to the private residences there.

    Nice Visit
My wife and I enjoyed visiting the unique Point Betsie Lighthouse. A nice gift shop is on the property with a good variety of clothing items, novelty gifts, books and more. The 5-dollar tour was conducted by Brooke, a very competent, engaging young woman who is passionate about the history of the lighthouse and families of the keepers of the light. Thirty minute tour and steep, short climb up the stairs to the top were a fun part of our visit.

    impressive setting
The lighthouse has been painstakingly restored. It's possible to climb the 34 steps to the lantern (now an LED bulb). The Lighthouse Volunteers have the original Fresnel lens on site, quite a 'keeper.' The history exhibit beyond the gift store should really be given the visitor's attention to understand the work that was done at the Lighthouse and the Station. The guided tour of the house itself is very superficial, too short on the history of the families who lived and worked there, though our guide told us a fire destroyed many if not most of the records so there's little they know about the lives lived there in the early 1900s. Spend your time in the history exhibit. The 15 minute tour of the house will not teach you what you should know to appreciate the place!
