Mount Pisgah, Michigan, United States

Nice view, great exercise

Mount Pisgah was one of the places we wanted to visit the most on our trip to Holland. After climbing the 300 steps (which are numbered) the view of the lighthouse and Lake Michigan was great. We were there in the evening so there wasn't a lot of people there, and the summer heat was more subdued.

    Great walk and view
Mt. Pisgah was a great little walk/climb/view in the Holland State Park area. Parking here can certainly be a challenge, as there isn't much to go around (it's a much easier access if you're camping at the adjacent Holland State Park). We parked a bit down the road at a lakeside public parking area, and walked about the 1/4 mile back down the road (on sidewalks) to the park entrance. The park entrance is a bit hidden, but there is an "interpretative" station by the sidewalk. From there, it's a relatively short walk through the woods on a paved path (at some point, bicycles are no longer allowed). From there, wooden steps take you up to the top of the hill area. While there are a lot of stairs to climb, there are lots of benches and landing areas to stop and rest and/or view during the climb. The payoff is at the top, where there are views of both Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa. There are more benches at the top, allowing for some good viewing. There was also an elevated walkway that went deeper into the woods; we did not walk too far down it, but the explorer part of myself was curious as to where that led....I'm guessing to some point in the State Park. All in all, this is a great physical activity, combined with some great views of the area.

    Nice stop near the beach
We stopped here after a beach day, as it's walking distance from the beach. Entrance is interestingly placed on a somewhat busy street but once you are through and start the stair climb, it is very quiet and serene. It started raining a bit when we went, so it wasn't crowded at all. Look down at the steps every so often as they are numbered. Views were fantastic, nice breeze at the top and plenty of platforms and benches to take a breather if you need to.
