Little Sable Point Lighthouse, Michigan, United States

4.5 (440 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Oceana County Lighthouses

If you like lighthouses stop here!

I came to Michigan to visit lighthouses. This one was on my list south of Ludginton. Since I visited Big Sable, my visit would not of been complete without seeing Little Sable. The beach is very nice here. The view is even better. I like the fact the lighthouse is now back to its original brick form. At one time it was a white lighthouse. There is an $8 fee per person to go up. Coupons/discounted passes can be found to lighten the cost. Either way your cash goes to a good cause. Enjoy the adventure, it was sure worth it for me!

    Beautiful old restored lighthouse
I use a cane so I greatly appreciated that the smooth cement walkway to the lighthouse is a rather short walk. Also, they have quite a few benches around the lighthouse so you can sit and enjoy the gorgeous views of beautiful Lake Michigan and a large sandy beach. We didn’t walk to the top (I believe they charge $12 per adult, $8 per child) but it was worth the drive.

Beautiful lighthouse and an even better beach
This is a beautiful lighthouse with a long and storied history; however, it was closed when we visited early in October. Fortunately, they can't close the beach. As an ardent swimmer who derives sheer joy from swimming, especially in Lake Michigan, not even the slight chill of early October could keep me out of the water on this gorgeous stretch of beach. That I was the only person, other than the kite boarders, in the water did not detract in the least from the spiritual experience of a long swim in the, er, refreshing waters of the lake in this breathtaking setting. While my wife is not a swimmer, she loves sitting on the beach with her book, taking in the sights, smells, sounds, and general spiritual and physical renewal that the majestic waterfront of Lake Michigan provides. We have enjoyed every beach we have visited on the eastern shores of Lake Michigan. Being from the Chicago area, we most often visit New Buffalo, Warren Dunes, St. Joseph, and other beaches in Harbor Country. While we are ardent fans of all those places, and the beach town atmosphere, especially of New Buffalo, is hard to beat, the actual beach at Little Sable Beach House trumps them all, at least from an aesthetic standpoint. We look forward to revisiting this beach, and other beaches to its north, in the coming years.
