Large, private, grassy sites with lots of trees.

Camped here with friends over Memorial Day weekend. Sites were large, grassy, part sun/part shade. Lots of trees which was great! Lots of privacy here. Not crammed in on top of your neighbor. We were down wind from the vault toilet which was pretty stinky. We must have walked over 20x throughout the weekend to shut the door. Appreciated the hand sanitizer mounted to wall though. Beach area looked nice but we never swam there, only rode our bikes down to check it out. Saw some water sites that were phenomenal! We were jealous. Maybe we can snag one next time. There's electricity at the campsites, but no water. There's one well w/ a hand pump but was it was VERY hard to pump. Hope you're in shape! :) Be sure to guard your food. Raccoons are not afraid of people. They were trying to get into our bins when we were sitting 2ft away.

    Peaceful and perfect! Except . . .
There are many, many things to love about this campground! We will definitely be back. Start gazing in this dark sky preserve was great, even with some cloud cover. Sites are gargantuan and fairly private via thickets of trees and shrubs. The trails around the park are fun to walk, the boat launch is great. I've never seen so many birds in my life -- your basic backyard crew (robins, doves, sparrows, etc.) plus orioles, red and gold finches, swallows, heron, buzzards, and some kind of bird with a speckled breast that ran on the ground. You couldn't swing a stick without hitting a hatched robin egg on the ground. Nice for bike riding, walking, fishing, you name it! We had a great weekend. The park ranger was lovely. We didn't need water b/c we're in an RV but the single pump at the entrance might be problematic for anybody without a water tank. Did not try the pit toilets! It's lousy with ticks, don't forget to spray and stay out of the tall grass! There are definitely deer in the park but we were assured by a local that there's no lyme disease in the area. Better safe than sorry though -- we were there for the weekend and took 7-8 ticks off us. Bring extension cords for electric, that is no joke. Site #12 is right on the path to the dam, which was fun. Sites #38 and #37 have direct access to the water and I'll bet they're booked solid all summer. Bring bug spray, wellies for the mud, binocs / telescope for the stars, and a fishing pole!

    Beautiful park!!
A hidden gem! Although the skeeters are thick, this is a beautiful park. No facilities, other than pit toilets & electric at the campsites. This is one of Michigan's "Dark Sky Parks" and is open 24/7. Would be a great park for star gazing. Although we had a storm roll thru when we were there and was unable to view the sky. Lot's of people fishing on the lake!!!
