An Arboretum with incredible views
I came expecting some birds and nice walk and discovered a beautiful trail along Lake Michigan and an unadvertised arboretum! New owner group is hoping to get the word out that this was developed by the family who created the Morton Arboretum in Chicago. Its beautiful lawn setting has a collection of special trees, including exotics such as the Giant Sequoia and Ginko. The original family home is a cottage size estate befitting a wealthy family, which includes a wood paneled library and great room with French doors opening onto a flagstone terrace for entertaining. They plan to have this open for tours soon. You can walk along scenic paths past the pool and cabana area and out onto a vast lawn which goes to a stone wall overlooking Lake Michigan. Included in this area is the original family cookout area. The grounds are open to the public and it's an unbelievable hidden treasure for tree enthusiasts!

Pleasant spot overlooking Lake Michigan
This is an Audubon Bird Sanctuary on the grounds of the former M.E. and Gertrude Gray home, just north of Orchard Beach State Park. Three short easy, but unpaved, walking trails within the 75 acres, passing by various unusual tree specimens including California Redwood, Ginkgo, and two Michigan Champion Trees, a Giant Sequoia and a Sycamore Maple. Lovely views of Lake Michigan, with picnic areas.
