Hidden gem in Battle Creek

“The Historic Adventist Village is one of the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s most valuable hidden treasures. Although I have visited the Village on a number of occasions, I always leave inspired by the amazing providence of God in raising up the Advent Movement. The stories of the sacrifice and commitment of our early Adventist pioneers lift my spirits and encourage my heart. They provide insight into our past history, lessons for our current challenges and hope for the future. If you have never been to the Historic Adventist Village you will want to plan to visit as soon as possible and if you have already been to the Village, there is something new waiting for you as you visit this inspirational site again. I recommend it highly and will drop by any time I am in the area because this treasure is too good to hide any longer.” Mark Finley

    Off the path and hidden
You won’t find this place listed in many places. It has a religious affiliation. However, when I took the tour, I was not preached at nor given options to join the church. It was nice to see old buildings and see some of the original furniture used during the 1800s. Staff was extremely friendly and even let our kids try out some of the crazy inventions used back then. I would visit this place at least once.

Obviously a shoestring operation, but worth a visit
Those interested in Battle Creek History and the history of the Kellogg brothers (we just read Battling Brothers of Battle Creek before coming) will find the visitor center interesting with several displays of Kellogg inventions. The rest of the village is primarily of interest to Seventh-day Adventists or historians of religion interested in Adventist history. The village appears to be supported primarily by donations, and seems to struggle. The volunteers are dedicated, but the denomination apparently provides inadequate support. Buildings are thus not in the best condition.
