My newest favorite TC area attraction!
Open daily from May-Labor Day, The GT Butterfly House & Bug Zoo strives to educate, engage and entertain guests! The garden features a tranquil waterfall and hundreds of exotic butterflies dancing from flower to flower. The Bug Zoo features a large, fascinating Honeybee Observation hive...See honey being made up close! The Tarantula Tree houses colorful and creepy tarantulas, while Beetle Boulder allows families to explore beetles, roaches, mantids and more! Before your tour ends, you'll meet amphibians of all shapes and sizes, including dart frogs, axolotls and "Squishy," our Iberian Rib Newt. Get up close to the Bug World with "Duke Elsner's Crawl Space"--A rotating collection of native bug species aimed at conservation and identification. We offer a small gift shop to take home a gift or special momento. Come early for Butterflies emerging, and inquire about holding a cool bug!

Highlight of our trip!
What a unique experience! The staff was incredibly knowledgeable, kind and helpful- the extra time they spent answering our questions and the enthusiasm shown really added to the experience. There were so many beautiful butterflies and just as beautiful moths, it was delightful! We had several of them land on us during the tour :), I felt like I was in a magical place. The insects and arachnids were just as fascinating, and thanks to one of our guides, Ryan, for introducing us to Mike the myriapod and a hissing cockroach we were also able to hold. We learned SO much! Did we mention how great the staff was? ;p There is a great food service across the parking lot with affordable soft serve ice cream, shakes, novelties and food stuffs-pulled pork, nachos, sloppy joes etc. that made it easy to grab food before heading back to our vacation rental. A memorable visit for sure and highly recommended. :)

Amazing staff
The best part of this little museum are the people. As soon as we walked in, the man at the front desk (maybe the owner?) was very nice and explained how everything was set up and the rules. The women in the butterfly enclosure talked to us about the different butterflies, how often they get shipments, and told us we could help release some new butterflies into the enclosure. During the rest of the museum, another employee spent a lot of time with us, telling us all about the bugs. I think without the wonderful staff, this probably would have been a 3 star attraction, but they really made it worth it. There's a cute little gift shop at the end and a food truck outside.
