Glacial Hills Pathway and Natural Area, Michigan, United States

5.0 (24 reviews) Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #3 in Antrim County Hiking Trails

Hikers, this is the best!

If you like to hike, this is the best hike I have ever been on in Michigan! It is just one mile from town, simple to find down a residential street, and well worth going to again and again! The extreme ecological diversity found at the Glacial Hills Pathway and Natural Area here is beyond anything I have ever seen before. There are 12 distinct habitat types, including two hardwood forest types, three wetland habitats, and the shrub thicket and wet mesic forest types that support more than 20 species of trees, over 100 species of flowers, and over 100 species of birds, including great-horned owls, eagles and the threatened red-shoulder hawk. Wow.

Lost (and Found) in the Woods
Adjacent to the beautiful and friendly town of Bellaire. Our family visits weekly. I was intimidated by the trails several years ago since I can easily get "lost in the woods", yet they have been wonderfully marked and a map is available nearly every 1/2 mile or so. Miles and miles of paths to explore. I fell in love with Kensington Metropark and Island Lake State Recreation area in Milford and Brighton, Michigan more than 20 years ago. I thought I couldn't replace those places. I think I have.

Great Area for Hiking in the Woods
Great area for hiking, trails very well marked. You can do a short hike or go for many miles. Nice surface, well maintained, not many rocks or roots to navigate. Gently rolling hills through woods, very scenic. Highly recommend.
