Elk where you can see them!!!

My husband spent 3 hours in the Pigeon River State Forrest and did NOT see one Elk but here right off of Grandview Blvd by the Elks Lodge you can see many Elk!! They have a very nice parking lot and viewing benches. It is mating season so we were able to see some antler play by the young bucks and hear the bellowing of the huge males looking to mate!! It was just spectacular. It was a light drizzle when we were there but the animals were there and ready to entertain!! I highly recommend this viewing location to see a member of the largest elk population of in Michigan!

    This is so cool!
We happened to be staying in Gaylord for the night and saw this listing as the number one thing to do in town. It was a short drive from our hotel to a large parking lot overlooking a fenced in field of maybe 40+ acres. There is a short 100 yard or so walk from the parking lot down to the fence. Inside, I am guessing that this is a herd of nearly 30 elk of various ages. Our picture shows one. Most of the herd came right up next to the fence as they surely equate humans with food. Kids will absolutely love this.

    A unique experience
This was a great unique experience and opportunity to see these magnificent animals in an open natural environment. A herd of around 30 elk (and a very small number of two other deer species) can be seen. The enclosure is large, so the elk are not all seen together, but worth every moment, especially when one or two wander up close to the fence. They are very big animals. Easy to park, not many places to sit down and rest, but it is free to the public!
