I recommend stopping here while in Fishtown (Leland)
We’ve been coming here for the last (3)years. We stay in Traverse city. I usually will get the smoked whitefish and 1/2 pound of smoked fish sausage. I love them both. We’re going to come up again in September,

Get the smoked whitefish pate -- actually, get two. It's that good.
My only interaction with Carlson's has been to step into this tiny waterside shop to buy the smoked whitefish pate with water crackers. It is the best in Michigan, in my opinion, and I can't imagine visiting Leelanau Peninsula without stopping by to get some. If you're there during nice weather, bring a bottle of white wine and make the pate part of a picnic. Bring a blanket and find some place on the peninsula along the water. I know this short review is really underselling how wonderful Carlson's is. It's a tiny little place that is not fancy at all, but very beloved. There are good articles I've seen about this Scandinavian family and their business. Definitely worth stopping at Fishtown. I especially like being there around October, when you can see the salmon come in.

Legendary, fresh fish, jerky, and more!
Love Carlson's Fishery. It's a gem of a place right in Fish Town in business for over a century. They have amazing smoked trout, salmon, and whitefish and of course their legendary jersey and fish sausage. The staff is efficient and friendly too. Try the famous pate. Carlson's Fishery is loved by locals and tourists.
