Nice Park!

This park has a nice playground - more for younger kids. It had some good rock hunting and plenty of driftwood.

The Pocket Park at the Storm Sewer
The city built a series of sewers to take care of the runoff from the gutters of the streets. During summer rainstorms, they provide a means of disposing of this water quickly. This is how the storm sewer at Blair Street came into being. This big metal tunnel that extends out into Thunder Bay has been fixed up so folks are able to walk out to the end & see if there are anythings of interest in the water, I suppose. Or just enjoy the view. To the north side of the sewer is a piece of property not much bigger than a city lot, that we call Blair Street Park. It's really quite a nice little place. No where to change clothes if you want to swim, but the sand is nicer than over at Starlite Beach. BUT it has one MAJOR problem... When we DO have a storm & the water DOES churn through the tunnels to pour out into the bay, the risk of contracting E-Coli escalates.. It's logical, isn't it? The water near the drain is going to be full of whatever it is that causes stuff like that to materialize. It's true. I've gotten it from swimming there & forgetting that 3 days ago the rains came down & you know the rest. Ordinarily the water is tested & warnings are posted. I was just lucky I suppose. So now if its in the water I want to be, I drive out behind the Cement Plant on Misery Bay Road. Isaacson's Beach - it's cleaner, sandier, & more rustic. But for a walk to the lake, bring your blanket or chair & a good book and relax & enjoy the fine summer day.

    Nice little boardwalk beach!
Picnic tables, a portable toilet, sandy beach, and a nice long boardwalk, all within walking distance to a Dairy Queen, a mini-golf, and local restaurants. A very nice, usually un-crowded spot to enjoy a hot summer day, or even a cool windy fall day to watch the Lake Huron whitecaps crashing on the shore. Regardless how, you'll enjoy this little slice of beach in Alpena!
