Betsie Valley Trail, Michigan, United States

4.5 (70 reviews) Spent Ranking #5 in Benzie County Hiking Trails

Great trail for either biking or hiking

This trail has starting points in either beulah or Frankfort .. one can choose out and back, one way, or round trip. It’s up to you, but whatever you choose, you will be surprised with how scenic it is , offering great views of crystal lake and various nature areas . I did an out and back hike from Beulah, but I definitely want to follow up with a bike ride in the future. Lots of tourists opt for sleeping bear dunes and give this area a miss. Ok by me as less people on the trails! Definitely worth checking out

    Beautiful ride
We did the entire 44 mile ride. We did not pass another bike on the path between Beulah and Thompsonville. Which is sad because there were a lot of pretty views along the way. This section of the trail is unpacked gravel. Between Beulah and Frankfort there was a lot of foot and bike traffic. Half of the trail is along Crystal Lake, which is gorgeous. Once you cross M-115, the trail is asphalt and smooth. You then parallel Betsie River until you get to Betsie Lake. Lots to see along this part of trail too. Easy riding the entire way.

    Very nicely maintained, flat trail
We biked this trail for the first time. From Frankfort almost to Crystal Lake it is paved. Once you cross a 2-lane highway at the end of Crystal Lake it is hard pack. The trail is well maintained with lovely scenery. There are a couple of road crossings, some busier than others, so BE CAREFUL!. Something missing - I didn't see a repair and air station at the trail head.
