When is a library not a library?
When it's the George M. Fletcher County Library in Alpena, MI What do I mean? Well the last time I was there we made Cinnamon Rolls and filled our faces with these delectable rolls! Before that I was reading up on some family history in their genealogy area. And the history of the great Lakes with Pat Labadie's research makes this building more, much more than just a library! Brown Bag Lunches where books are discussed; cooking classes; I gave a class on the care & loving of Vintage Hats & there was one program when folks brought their collections in for others to enjoy and ask questions about. Collections... not the highbrow stuff of museums, but the ceramic cats, or the music boxes of another, or the Hummel figurines of yet another are such fun to look at and enjoy! Why go broke buying movies, or pictures, or books on antiques? Go to our library. Rent out a framed picture for your living room; the latest dvd movie; talking books for your car trips and of course, go up to their research area & find books they have on antiques or collectibles or ever so many other subjects. Of course you might just want a book. This is the place to find it. And read today's newspaper or the latest issue of Ladies' Home Journal. Our library morphed into a vibrantly alive place that has so much to offer and so much variety that I'd be bending your ear for an hour if I tried to tell you all. AND when you come to our library, be sure to take a look at the beautiful fountain out back with drinkable mineral water. Did you know that a hundred years ago this was the very place that the Bath house stood where folks came "for the cure"? Look across the street at the big cannon on the city hall lawn... off the battle ship Maine. Across Water Street are two more historic buildings. The Old Post OFfice and Memorial Hall built to honor our men who went to fight in the War to end all Wars. Today is is no longer a memorial to the men, it served time as the National Guard Armory & is currently home to a Paint Ball business. It's amazing what you can see from the windows of our library. From the kid friendly spot on the ground floor to the craftsman furnishings upstairs in the hall, there is SO MUCH to see & do.

    Nice Small Town Library
Stopped in to work on some college classes because of their WiFi. Very clean, well lit and well organized library. I enjoyed sitting upstairs at one of the tables. I was visiting from Florida, and was pleased with this little library.
