Happy riders.

The "Morning Oceanfront Trail Ride" begins at the Mendes Ranch Corral and will take you down the edge of the scenic valley to the coastline where you will have an opportunity to view the magnificent waters of the Pacific Ocean before heading back up to the corral. At the coastline, our trail guides will take photos of you with the majestic seascape in the background. RIDE LENGTH: 1.5 hours CHECK-IN: 8:45 am (Departs at 9:00 am) We take the safety of our riders and horses very seriously and will therefore strictly enforce our weight limit of 230#. Due to our terrain of going up & down the mountain, if the horse slips, we face serious injury to both. If you show up on sight with questionable weight, we will take you to the scale. No refund will be available if you are denied as we are booked to capacity and could have sold your space. Please respect our animals, be honest, and we look forward to meeting you at the ranch! * Closed toe shoes are required for this ride *

Beautiful country, great views - excellent guides.
We booked a trail ride at Mendez Ranch for our last day on Maui. My wife , grand daughter and i climbed aboard the well behaved and well seasoned trail horses and were lead through some of Maui’s beautiful mountain country by two expert and personable guides, Larry and a transplant from Pennsylvania whose name escapes me. They were both great. This is a fun ride, even for those with little experience with horseback riding.

Mendes Ranch - what a great ride!
We just returned from Maui and really enjoyed our ride with Mendes Ranch. We are a family of 5 - two parents and three kids (11,13 & 16). They ask you to define your riding skill into three groups - beginning, intermediate and advanced. 4 of us were begginers and I was an intermediate. All the intermediate/advance label means is that they'll give you a horse that likes to run. Anyone who classifies themselves as an intermediate or advanced rider should know how to run a horse. There are only two parts of the ride that they have the horses run. It was awesome. The guides provided a quick lesson/refresher course on how to run a horse; they warned us when we were approaching the run and made sure we were ready. The beginner's horses did not go into a full run - just a nice trot. I believe this is the only ranch on Maui that lets you run the horses! The ride was beautiful. They take you up to view the valley and waterfalls then down to the coast. The guides get off their horses, so they can take pictures using your camera. You don't get socked with paying for any photos. I've been on rides where you are not allowed to take a camera at all. I'd definitely recommend this ride for a family. They were great with our kids. The guides made it a point to learn everyone's name and had a lot of fun talking/joking around with everyone. If you are thinking of a horseback excursion on Maui - go with Mendes ranch!
