Go there!
If you can arrange a visit there, really do go! It's extremely clear and well-presented. Don't worry if they show chocolate boxes and coffee pots at the beginning, this is just to keep you waiting. It's interesting to get the explanation from the workers themselves. They looked so proud of their work. Deservedly so! And if you have a good guide, he can relate it to the context of Matagalpa, and the importance of coffee in the local economy. Very enlighting.

Private tour
Tours are scheduled at certain times of the day. We arrived at an odd hour. However we were given a private tour and since it was an odd hour we were informed beforehand that it would only be in Spanish. Of all the tours in Nicaragua, this one will be remembered the most.

Interesting tour
After the 2018 troubles, with the tourism reaching almost point 0, also El Castillo was affected by much less demand. That's why the production is now scheduled according to needs and doesn't occur daily. We were shown around by the Dutch man who settled this small scale business 14 years ago : the explanations were interesting and we could ask many questions. We could taste small pieces of different varieties of chocolate and we were offered a cup of hot strong chocolate. The tour costed 3 $ and even if the machines nor the staff were working, we could imagine the process. All the working spaces were spick and span.
