    Must-see experience!
The message and experience at Walden is important for society to experience today, whether it involves becoming acquainted or reminded of Thoreau’s thoughts and actions. His philosophy and experiments in simplifying his life are extremely relevant and needed in today’s society that is filled with complications, meaningless distractions, and not much meaning. Absolutely watch the video presentation in the welcome center. You will leave inspired and ready to explore Walden and learn more. While vehicle parking at the park is expensive ($30), everything else is free. We looked at this fee as the entrance expense, and it is worth the price! The rangers are very knowledgable and very willing to provide information and answer questions. This is a must-see for all ages.

A great place to walk and enjoy nature
My sister wanted to spend her birthday doing something outdoors and this is where I took her in the morning. We enjoyed hearing a docent explain about Thoreau's life in the little cabin in the woods overlooking the lake and then we walked around the lake; on the trail there is a sign pointing to the location of the original cabin; the cabin itself is no longer there. There is an excellent trail around the lake and it is an easy walk for adults and for kids. I think in the summer you can rent a rowboat or canoe on the lake, but we went in April and there were no boats available. There is a nice visitor center and an ample parking lot - at least in April. We bought a Mass senior resident lifetime parking/visitor pass for all the Massachusetts state parks at the visitor center and that is an excellent deal.
