A Must-Stop

What a beautiful place to stop and just be! There is a so much to see if you take the time and are able to walk around, but if you can't or don't care to, there's much to see just sitting and/or taking a few steps. One doesn't have to be Catholic to enjoy and be at peace here. I would love to be able to attend Mass in the open air. The gift shop is delightful, full of many things that will catch the attention of non-Catholics as well. The woman who runs it is lovely and I enjoyed talking with her. She is a talented buyer! There is an exhibit in the back of the gift shop not to be missed. It is of Russian icons that were smuggled out of Russian homes once the Soviet regime made possessing them dangerous. Some are very old. This is definitely a place to remember, and if you are fortunate enough to be there on a beautiful fall day, you will be entranced.

    Fascinating, worthwhile stop
Our bus tour group visited the Russian Icon collection at St Anne/St Patrick. The parish pastor greeted us and explained the history and significance of the Icon collection. The gift shop offers a wide variety of high quality, reasonably priced religious items. We visited in December when the surrounding grounds had been closed for the season. We limited our time to the gift shop and Icon chapel.. I highly recommend a stop here.

    Peaceful and beautiful
The St. Anne Shrine is just down the street from the historic Sturbridge village. You can walk the beautiful Stations of the Cross, within the hill and forest. At the top of the hill is a beautiful Mary Grotto and a life size Crucifix, higher up (stairs). There are also a number of statues on the walk, including statues for Our Lady of Fatima. The St Patrick’s Chapel is not fancy but worth a look. The Hall of Saints is also worth visiting as is the large gift shop. All in all, this is a beautiful place to visit even if you don’t understand or care about the religious aspects. But it’s particularly beautiful and peaceful if you do.
