Oakes Ames Memorial Hall, for Architectural buffs

This is a very good example of Richardson Romantic architecture, featuring elephant columns, gables, stone, shingle, art glass, gargoyle and fantasy animals. Built by the owner of the Ames shovel fortune, who decided to invest in the companies that utilized shovels, such as railroads and mines. His fortune paid for the Memorial Hall, the Free Library, and the Gatehouse, and the train station, which is now a museum. Pre-arrange a guided tour of all of these buildings, and be swept back in time.
