Magnificent!

Thought to be the largest solid granite monument in the United States, this 81-foot-tall granite statue was built to honor the passengers of the Mayflower. Boston sculptor Hammatt Billings designed the monument which features allegorical figures depicting the virtues of Faith, Morality, Education, Law, and Liberty. A dedication on the monument reads, “National Monument to the Forefathers. Erected by a grateful people in remembrance of their labors, sacrifices and sufferings for the cause of civil and religious liberty.” The original design called for the monument to be nearly twice as tall at 150 feet (just under the Statue of Liberty’s height of 151 feet). The monument is free to visit and open to the public year-round. Its site is managed and maintained by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic and their furry companions (on a leash) to enjoy the monument's lawn.

I had to manually turn her phone off because it was on and she should have been concentrating on her 4 fathers.
I am an English man and my good lady is American . She talks a lot about her country (USA) but it’s mostly just a load of old twottle about eagles and burgers. I wanted to show her about her country and it’s (very bonificant) past so I took her to this enormous erection (as she seems to love them). When we arrived,I asked her to put on her Wonder Woman outfit to show respect and she agreed. I put on a small Stetson,a fake moustache and a black dress because I didn’t want to over do it. She kept saying “ hey man,can we get outta here and get a burger?” I simultaneously laughed at her requests and told her that we must stand together and stare at this amazing monument and thank goodness we live in the best country in the world (apart from England). She suddenly said that she understood what I was trying to do and thanked me by giving me a special kind of hug. After our “hug “ we got back into my camper van and had a cup of beer. We only drink Budweiser 0% alcohol because it makes me feel like I’m a little bit American and I can’t drive when I’m sloshed. I made 4 burgers for her,as she was very hungry and weighs in at about 475 kilograms. We ate them looking at her 4 fathers and I sung the song “born in the USA “ by a man called Billy Springclean. A wonderful day and an inspiration to everyone who loves American history.

    Magnificent!
A group of seniors, along with me and my husband, were visiting Plymouth during a tour of Cape Cod. This was one of our stops along the way. What a magnificent statue! According to available literature, “Formerly known as the Pilgrim Monument, the idea was conceived in 1820…It was completed in 1888, a 81-foot-tall granite statue built to honor the passengers of the Mayflower…she stands facing the harbor, welcoming those who come by water. “The central figure is surrounded by four ancillary figures (Morality, Education, Law, and Liberty)…they are meant to represent the principles upon which the Pilgrims Fathers proposed to found their Commonwealth, and they illustrate how these ideals were transferred to the New World.” It is now called The National Monument to the Forefathers. A must see and photograph.
